The Wedding Wordsmith

Helen is a Bristol-based writer and editor who creates compelling copy and content for wedding and creative businesses.

For Helen’s brand shoot we split the shoot into two parts – one based at her workspace and the other out on location. Helen wanted new images for her website plus her newsletter and social media platforms.

We created a variety of images including headshots, behind-the-scenes images of Helen’s working life, and shots with details that incorporate her love of plants, flowers, gardening and books. There was also a nod to the wedding professionals she works with by doing the outdoor shoot at a local wedding venue, Arnos Vale. This woodland cemetery location meant we could also get some photos of Helen walking in the woods while listening to podcasts, as this is something she loves to do, and so was a great way to showcase an aspect of her personality. I also created images with negative space, as these are great for using when you want to overlay text.

“As soon as my shoot started, I knew I was in safe hands. Like many people, I’m a reluctant model and was concerned that I would look and feel stilted. But just a couple of camera clicks in and I quickly realised that Nicky is wonderful at putting her subjects at ease.

I split my shoot into two sessions – a half day location shoot at Arnos Vale Cemetery and Wapping Wharf in Bristol, then a half day shooting in my home office. This meant I didn’t get too overwhelmed – photoshoots are surprisingly tiring! – and we had plenty of time to get all the shots we wanted.

Both mornings passed really quickly and, most importantly,  were really fun. Nicky was great at getting the range of shots I needed, from my headshots to the more styled desk images. She has a fantastic eye for detail when it comes to using props, and is also adept at finding interesting backdrops for photos. I was thrilled with the final results – I feel they perfectly capture my brand and business in a way that feels relaxed and authentic.”
